As good a day as any to run a marathon!
I met Ashley Carson, David Smith and support Chris Connors at the Old Dungeon Ghyll.
Ashley and David were to run a lap with strict instructions not to charge off and leave me. The first monster climb to Blea Tarn took care of that.
Miraculously my previous evening's work on my left leg seems to have helped. Either that or we'll have to re-write the physio manual and prescribe over-use as the best cure for over-use injuries!!
Well the first lap burned off David at about 10 miles, whilst Ashley completed a great lap but didn't fancy a second. So on "mi todd" again.
2 great surprises - seeing Mac Knowles and Martin Campbell on course. Huge thanks to Martin for the wonderful photos.
Took it more softly on lap 2 but the drop in temperature enabled me to maintain a pace. And as I dropped down into the valley a sub 5 was on. If I legged it for the last 3 miles which foolishly I did!
My strategy is to run hard if I'm feeling good in the first half, then ease off. This is the opposite of normal strategy but it allows me the best time I can get AND a period of slight recovery before the end. Which is key to the next day.
20% done yet I've hardly started. Feeling better and doing better than I thought I would be at this stage.
