As good a day as any to run a marathon!
What a fantastic and humbling day.
I couldn't believe the support from Sheffield, from Brathay, from everywhere. So many thanks to David & Ruth, Christopher & Penny, Pam & Doug, Hugh & Ruby, John & Liz, Mark & Helen, Rose, Jim & Anji, Aly & Mac, Scott & family, Godfrey & family, Paul, Diane & Kevin, Judith, Gill, Richard and all the Remount cohort, and so so many staff from Brathay.
And what a gorgeous day for it - a bit hot for running but quite a nice breeze. From the off my legs felt okay so I thought I'd go for it. I really put the work in over the first 3 hours and then Mark caught me up on his bike and just kept me going through the last miles as we chatted about this and that. Mark and I have known each other since 1972 so plenty to chat about!
And to the finish in my fastest time of the 30 - 4:17! And what a finish - the full finish gantry, fireworks, everyone wearing my T shirts, champagne, picnics and Brathay at its most magnificent.
The stats are 786 miles, 30 official marathons in 30 days, on 2 very tough routes, 144 hours 34 minutes, average 4.49, 2nd 15 faster than 1st 15. Far in excess of my expectations!
And although not all of the funds are recorded yet I will be up around £40k which is FANTASTIC!!
I must dash now (not running you understand - but to the bar!) but I will blog once more tomorrow and then Challenge 30 will be no more!
Here are the official stats - one last time:
