As good a day as any to run a marathon!
Pre run was dominated by my right ankle. I self-treated and massaged until I had a hand injury! I didn't try it out - because what is there to gain? If it hurts then you're just in a worse place mentally.
And sure enough the first hour was my worst by quite some distance on the Windermere course. It did hurt. And no matter what the course profile.
I probably ran a usual distance in the second hour - which is by far the easiest bit of the course drifting down through Graythwaite to Lakeside and Newby Bridge.
I was considerably behind usual schedule at the start of the hardest bit of the course - the 7 miles or so from Newby to Bowness. But I gradually began to conquer the pain, recruited my quads and glutes more up the hills and started astonishingly to make time back.
So it continued and after a stop for fizzy orange at Ice Cream Mountain I pushed on and crawled over the line in 4.55. I would not have thought this possible at the start of day 13. Day 14 tomorrow on Friday 13th!
In other news my gym buddy and all round top guy Richard "Inferno"Towers (unbeaten EU Heavyweight Boxing Champ) has his next fight with the unbeaten Aussie, Lucas "Big Daddy" Browne in November. To my surprise not only Richard but also Lucas is now a follower on Twitter and both are retweeting my progress. Here's a pic of Richard supporting Challenge 30
A pain/injury photo today - largely because my time today does not suggest I have a problem. I do!
And here are some stats
