Day 4 - Langdale

And the day dawned humid, still, airless and turned out sunny and hot!

As good a day as any to run a marathon!

Zoë from London who I had never met duly turned up at Brathay for our trip to Langdale.
I must admit to being concerned as she looked a phenomenal athlete - and indeed she is with a marathon pb of 3.07

However, I need not have bothered as she was a perfect companion. Chatting but only when we wanted, no particular encouragement but settled into a nice pace which took us through the first lap in around 2.25.

My usual routine is to drink and eat every hour for the first three hours and then every half hour. I had to stop slightly early for an ice cream as the day grew hotter. I did start to suffer in the heat and had to walk for the first time in Challenge 30 to regain my composure. But regain it I did and although I walked the remaining big hills we kept knocking off the miles.

I/we finished in 5.08 which is a cracking time under any circumstances on Langdale. My only complaint with Zoe is that she would not lend me her legs for tomorrow!

I report no problems except a niggle at the top of my left calf. Otherwise quite fluid still which is astonishing. I'm going to have a slower recovery day tomorrow just to be on the safe side.
